Kata-vento means “wind catcher” in Portuguese and features music written for three flutes, guitars and percussion. Composer Carlos Oliveira is inspired by the music of his homeland, particularly the northeast of Brazil where he was born. Often evocative of the pifano flute, a rustic bamboo instrument from this area, Oliveira’s compositions also delve into realms of Jazz, Samba, Maracatu, Choro, and “Cholypso.” Find video and performance dates at www.kata-vento.com.
